Arcus Violin Bow P8 Round Silver 4/4.

The P-series bows offer extra strength and resiliency. They are ideal for all rather strong violins with high tension strings. Available in either round or octagonal sticks. The the round sticks are rather calm and steady, whilst the octagonal are quite agile and lively. They are a great match for 5- and 6-string violins catching the lower strings with perfect ease. They weigh around 53 grams, drawing a round and warm sound.

To identify which Arcus bow might be the right one for you, we need to understand three fundamental elements:

How is your violin built?

What sound are you looking for?

What are your expectations and what is your budget?

  1. Matching the Construction of Your Violin

To find the best bow and strings for your instrument you need to understand how it is built. A more flexible violin will play and sound best with matching, i.e. flexible strings and bows. A stronger/stiffer violin needs correspondingly stronger/stiffer strings and bows.

  1. Complementing the Sound of Your Instrument

The best match for bright respectively brilliant sounding violins are strings and bows with a warm timbre. In contrast, warm or dark sounding violins should be paired with brilliant, bright sounding strings and bows for an ideal sound. 3. Requirements & Budget - Classification & Outfit Every newly made stick that passes our rigorous testing is then classified for its resonance quality. Our entry-level class-4 sticks come out with a damping coefficient of ca. 0.5 %, similar to high quality pernambuco. The supreme 9-class sticks are at only 0.1 %, which is significantly more resonant than any wooden bow.

The outfit has only a nominal influence on the sound and is mostly a matter of taste and durability. Gold is as beautiful as it is expensive, but also surprisingly robust. Silver is a bit softer but has the strongest lustre of all metals and stainless steel is of course the strongest and most durable.
